Being creative, progressive, and individualistic are the properties I have striven to be throughout my professional and personal life.
I was teased throughout my high school years for dying my hair a different color every other month and for spending my lunches in the A/V room. It was here at this high school in the small town of Grand Blanc, Michigan that I found my passion for media production. I mean, who doesn’t like to artistically express their own message and present it to viewers?
After graduating magna cum lade in 2007, my aspirations brought me to a broadcast training school in Detroit called Specs Howard School of Broadcast Arts.
It opened my eyes up to all the possibilities in the media industry: production, post production, design (print and motion), photography, audio tech, and so many more—And really, I want to learn it all!
Many internships later and having graduated from broadcast school, I began to freelance and work at a post house. Now I am bringing my A-game to contribute to Fig’s established excellence. I love to be shown new things and different points of view, and where is there a better place to find new things than the diverse city of Chicago? Someone who recommends me a good book will be a friend for life (hint: my favorite author is Kurt Vonnegut). The same applies to films as well. Darren Aronofsky was my favorite director before he did “The Wrestler,” and Michael Gondry’s stylized ideas that he brings to the screen continues to inspire me. In the end, I am just a young woman hoping to get the opportunity to give my perspective in this industry. Being less than two years out of high school, I know I have a lot to learn; I just hope to enjoy the ride!
Five Goals for my experience at Fig: 1. I hope to continue to network and connect with people that share the same passions as me. 2. To continue to learn and refine my knowledge in all the different media programs. I want to become more knowledgeable about Avid and the other Adobe programs. 3. I want to not just specialize in editing but pursue other interests in all positions in productions and design. I wish to be well rounded in this ever-changing industry. 4. Eventually, I want to be more innovative and stylized in my editing technique. Once I become completely proficient in editing, I wish to experiment and have a eye-catching technique. 5. I want to learn the invisible art of editing and essentially be the storyteller.
