fig is short for Figshta, a friend of a friend was in a band in Houston long ago called 3 Day Stubble, and they had a lyric – ‘she changed her name to Figshta when she started to hang around with the wrong crowd’. This little calico cat- Fig, showed up at our door one day in Houston, we had had two other cats run away after we had spent all the money on vet bills et cetera so when this little scrawny cat walked in we told her she was hanging around with the wrong crowd -we didn’t want anymore vet bills. The name stuck, and so did she. She moved to Chicago with us and this is where we learned about the little ceramic cats in Japanese restaurants, with one paw up, on either side for luck, money, customers, depending on whom you talked to. We also learned that calicos are female only and that that is why they are considered good luck. So we decided to name the business fig and do a play on our good luck symbol. James started going around to businesses introducing him self with the cards and logo Michele designed and telling them about our concept - DJs with a unique standard of being event facilitators.
To be tasteful and to play hip music and to articulate and support the natural flow of the event has become the fig legacy and now more of an industry cutting edge and standard. Sweet simplicity. We have grown to incorporate more of our training and to evolve standards in business around the talent that has come our way.
