Wonka Ball - Written by James Gustin, Owner

For the past several years, Fig Media has assisted the About Face Theater’s annual Wonka Ball. On June 15th, for AFT’s fifth Wonka gala, Fig provided the sound system and a resident Deejay, who kept the party humming between performances by AFT’s singers. Fig’s connection to the Wonka Ball is through our good friend Ted Grady of J&L Catering, who provided cocktails and hors d'oeuvres. The party is made possible by the creative team at AFT (Eric Rosen, Heather, and Greg), Julie Darling, and the tons of volunteers and caterers. In addition to making the acoustics at Architectural Artifacts sound great for AFT’s singers, Fig’s DJ is able to use the venue as a testing lab for new music. Every party has been bigger and crazier than the last - the combination of “Camp” and “Disco” can only spell “Fun, Fun, Fun!”

Rockit commissions fig media to create an edgy promotional piece for its client appreciation party – Written by Andrew Ettenhofer, Event Sales Manager

Fig films are developing quite a buzz – everyone has to have one. Heather Walker, Director of Sales and Marketing for Rockit Bar and Grill, saw a fig promotional piece at a recent Le Passage private party, and knew she wanted the same kind of video treatment for one of her events. She was fortunate that I‘m in love with Rockit’s upstairs event space – with its awesome DJ set-up and huge flat screen TVs – so I was more than happy to make something happen. After an initial consultation, we collectively came up with an idea for a short video piece highlighting Rockit as the hottest destination in Chicago right now. Fig’s creative team ran with the idea and created an edgy black-and-white film about traveling to and experiencing Rockit. We loved the project because we got to flex our artist muscles and be totally original; Rockit loved the project because it was a one-of-a-kind showcase of their business. The film premiered at one of their client appreciation parties, and everyone’s attention was fixed on those huge screens.

Fig delivers on-the-spot-doc for Infinity Broadcasting Corporation - Written by Megan Taylor,Video Manager

Last weekend, Fig sent a team of seven videographers, photographers, and editors to cover the annual three-day meeting for 250 executives of Infinity Broadcasting Corporation, one of the largest radio broadcasting companies in the United States. To help Infinity’s celebration, Fig produced two on-site dynamic video montages that captured the work accomplished during the days and the fun that everyone had during the nights. The documentation began at Le Passage, one of Chicago’s hippest clubs, where the execs dined and danced before a live performance by Trisha Yearwood. The next day, Fig filmed Infinity’s meetings, and then followed them to Navy Pier for their yacht party on Anita Dee II, which featured a live performance by Clint Black. Fig was excited for the opportunity to showcase their creative talents, and was equally thrilled to work with Infinity’s bright and enjoyable group of people.

Fig Media and Phil Stefani’s team up for a fun-filled Trolley Tour, complete with food, trivia, and video - Written by Andrew Ettenhofer, Event Sales Manager

If you oversee a hundred restaurants and private events spaces, how do you showcase them all in the most effective and entertaining way? For John Drabick, Director of Business Development at Phil Stefani’s, the answer is, you pack as many industry people onto a bus and take them on an unforgettable wine and dine tour of different Stefani establishments. Fig was brought on-board to make the bus rides between the various stops more engaging and interactive. The Colonial Coach luxury bus was equipped with seven video screens, so fig created on-board visual entertainment for the trip. John wanted to highlight some of the Stefani branches not on the Trolley Tour, so we made hip and funny commercials for those spaces. John also wanted the ads to be interactive, so each place had a spokesperson ask a trivia question, which was answered by one of the passengers on the bus. Fig was grateful for the opportunity to do such a unique project, and we were proud to contribute to the success of the Trolley Tour that made Phil Stefani’s look great.

National Demolition Association - Written by Melissa Martens, Video Editor

Fig Media is currently working with the National Demolition Association to create a DVD and Video to Help Demolition Contractors partner with Local Fire Fighters on first response teams. “The attack on 9/11 focused the nation’s attention on the importance of the Incident Command System, and how First Responder’s use Skilled Support Personnel with the training, equipment, and experience necessary to safely assist them following a disaster.”
We have been working with local Chicago land Fire Departments and Demolition Contractors to create a DVD presentation to assist the NDA in becoming more involved in the Skilled Support Personnel. The DVD will be widely distributed to conventions, Department of Homeland Security, Fire Departments all over the U.S., and also abroad. Our goal is to create a video that will inspire Fire Departments to partner with their local demolition contractors to help create safer environments and save lives in the event of disasters, both man made and natural.
Our team at fig has combined its knowledge of Video and Design to create a compelling final Product. From Shooting at remote demolition sites, editing video, and designing the look and feel of the DVD, Fig Media is excited about this opportunity to not only create a intriguing industrial film, but to aid the nation and open opportunities that could save lives in the future.

Meet Fig - Written by Michele Gustin, Owner

Fig is short for Figshta, a friend of a friend was in a band in Houston long ago called 3 Day Stubble, and they had a lyric – ‘she changed her name to Figshta when she started to hang around with the wrong crowd’. This little calico cat- Fig, showed up at our door one day in Houston, we had had two other cats run away after we had spent all the money on vet bills et cetera so when this little scrawny cat walked in we told her she was hanging around with the wrong crowd -we didn’t want anymore vet bills. The name stuck, and so did she. She moved to Chicago with us and this is where we learned about the little ceramic cats in Japanese restaurants, with one paw up, on either side for luck, money, customers, depending on whom you talked to. We also learned that calicos are female only and that that is why they are considered good luck. So we decided to name the business fig and do a play on our good luck symbol. James started going around to businesses introducing himself with the cards and logo Michele designed and telling them about our concept - DJs with a unique standard of being event facilitators.

Our vision: to be tasteful and to play hip music and to articulate and support the natural flow of the event has become the fig legacy and now more of an industry cutting edge and standard. Sweet simplicity. We have grown to incorporate more of our training and to evolve standards in business around the talent that has come our way.
