800 People at the Aragon Ball Room

Over View:
This is our second year producing this event alongside Sacred Heart and our first year working with Tracey Crandall SHSC's new Director of Special Events, who lead a record breaking fundraising event.  fig achieved its goals: to support SH, raise lots of cash, people dancing and having fun all night, honor a great cause with a successful celebration, and have lots of fun. This year Corey McPherrin--a Sacred Heart dad and a FOX celebrity--donated his services as live auctioneer. He did a wonderful job leveraging his relationships with the crowd and did exceptionally well with the live auction. Behind the scenes, Corey was supported by James Gustin, fig stage Emcee, live talent support, and in-the-moment sequence supervisor and announcer. Michele Gustin executed the timeline and delivered cues and consulted with in-the-moment sequencing and delivery. A live fig deejay and fig percussionist worked with Corey to do dramatic music cues and drum rolls, adding verve and humor to the live auction items, the evening and dancing. Other great people we got to work with: Sacred Heart dad, Joe Shanahan, owner of the Metro, Kathy Fivelson, the Director of Development for Sacred Heart Chicago, and this year's auction parent chairs Maggie, Jill and Bea.

What fig Did:
fig created and executed the technical timeline, and performed an Integrated ExperienceTM: live DJ with percussionist combo, cinematography, IMAG (image magnification), visual and audio cues, and audio reinforcement. We ran the event from a stage we had installed, located in the epicenter of the crowd- theater in the round. We installed a huge screen center stage on one end of the Aragon and the dj and percussionist were accessible to the crowd on the floor in front of the Aragon's stage. We dismantled the center stage for dancing, which was exciting as it kept all the energy right in the middle of the room. Fig DJs had the dance floor packed and the dancing went right up until the end and then we stayed and deejayed the after clean-up party, keeping the volunteer energy up and making the cleanup fun, fast, and furious!

What fig Would Do Different Next Year or Learns and Grows:We started the evening with a super talented live gospel choir brought in by one of the parent co-chairs for the event committee. Although they were amazing performers, they were supposed to be' a cappella'. Instead they nearly overpowered our sound system, which was not equipped with the limiters needed or the general capacities for live vocalization. We stood there incredulous as the system barely made it through their performance and looked at our contract that said "background music for a cappella performance" and thought--this will never happen again. A few of us pictured ourselves wrestling the microphone out of the choir leader's hands but realized it wasn't their issue, it was ours. Nothing like experience to enrich our lives!  Gospel choir=gospel sound system.
